When not to use an AI keyboard
Choose a system keyboard, chat assistant, or human specialist when the message, connection, permission, or risk makes an AI keyboard the wrong tool.
An AI keyboard is useful for a narrow set of actions inside a message. It is not the right tool for every writing task.
Use the smallest suitable tool. A system keyboard is often best for ordinary typing. A chat assistant is better for open-ended drafting. A qualified person is necessary when a wrong word could cause harm.
Use a system input method when
- you are writing a long passage in one language;
- you need to work without a network;
- you prefer direct candidate control;
- your device or organization does not allow third-party keyboards.
For example, if you are writing a full Chinese journal entry on a flight, system Pinyin is the clearer choice.
Use a chat assistant when
- you have not written a draft yet;
- you need an outline or several alternatives;
- the task requires research or a long discussion;
- the result will be a new document rather than a change to one sentence.
If the message already exists and only needs one small change, a keyboard action may require fewer steps. See AI keyboard or ChatGPT?.
Use a human specialist when
- the text is medical, legal, financial, or related to immigration;
- you need certified translation;
- a misunderstanding could change consent, obligations, treatment, or payment.
Convert, Polish, and Explain can support everyday communication. They do not replace professional review.
Do not process sensitive text
Do not choose an AI action for:
- passwords or recovery phrases;
- payment-card details;
- private information you are not allowed to share;
- confidential messages when the configured service is not approved;
- text from an app that does not provide a reliable selection.
Read Privacy and protected content before using network-backed actions with work text.
When UnimeType fits
UnimeType can fit when:
- English is the main sentence and one short phrase needs another writing system;
- the message is already in the app where you will send it;
- you want to polish a sentence without creating a separate chat;
- you want to understand one selected phrase before replying.
Example I’ll call you 明天 after breakfast.
The message is short, English remains the main language, and the requested action is bounded.
