How UnimeType works

UnimeType is an English-keyboard-first input method. You type a complete thought with Latin characters and then deliberately ask UnimeType to convert it in place.

It is not a candidate-by-candidate Pinyin composition flow. Ordinary typing remains text in the current app. A network request starts only after you choose Convert, Polish, or Explain.

  1. Install UnimeType and enable it in the operating system's keyboard settings.
  2. Switch to the UnimeType keyboard or input source.
  3. Type with the Latin keyboard.
  4. Choose Convert, Polish, or Explain from the keyboard. On Mac and Windows, you can also enable a keyboard shortcut for Convert.

The Windows installers are currently unsigned. Windows may display Unknown publisher before installation. The Android keyboard is a preview and does not have a public APK yet.

What stays unchanged

  • Paragraph-boundary newlines and outer whitespace
  • Markdown headings, quote markers, list markers, and task boxes
  • Protected code spans, URLs, email addresses, recognized paths, and secrets

When the platform exposes the required text range, UnimeType checks that the captured text still matches before replacement. If it changed while a request was running, UnimeType keeps the app's current text.
